Prayer of Thanksgiving

¶ To be used after the General Thanksgiving, or, when that is not said, before the final Prayer of Blessing or the Benediction.

A Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the Fruits of the Earth
and all the other Blessings of his merciful Providence.

MOST gracious God, by whose knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew; We yield thee unfeigned thanks and praise for the return of seed-time and harvest, for the increase of the ground and the gathering in of the fruits thereof, and for all the other blessings of thy merciful providence bestowed upon this nation and people. And, we beseech thee, give us a just sense of these great mercies; such as may appear in our lives by an humble, holy, and obedient walking before thee all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all glory and honour, world without end. Amen.

For Plenty.

O MOST merciful Father, who of thy gracious goodness hast heard the devout prayers of. thy Church, and turned our dearth and scarcity into plenty; We give thee humble thanks for this thy special bounty; beseeching thee to continue thy loving-kindness unto us, that our land may yield us her fruits of increase, to thy glory and our comfort; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For a Safe Return from a Journey.

MOST gracious Lord, whose mercy is over all thy works; We praise thy holy Name that thou hast been pleased to conduct in safety, through the perils of the great deep, [his way,] this thy servant, who now desireth to return his thanks unto thee in thy holy Church. May he be duly sensible of thy merciful providence towards him, and ever express his thankfulness by a holy trust in thee, and obedience to thy laws; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

These prayers come from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.

Georgia Baptist Convention calls bloggers to repent

Thanks to James Grant for alerting me to this…

A Resolution on Blogging

James points to an article by Timmy Brister in response to this resolution. I have grown up in the Southern Baptist Convention and it is the only church denomination that I have know and been a member of throughout my life. I thought that the various state conventions condemning alcohol was bad enough, but this generalization about blogging is just too much. The SBC has way too many people in it who are just not getting things right and it may just be a whole generation away before things start to change for the better. Only God knows.

Trevin Wax Interview with N.T. Wright

Here is the full transcript of the interview Trevin conducted with N.T. Wright. This is a really great interview and I hope that every one of you will read through it or listen to the mp3 of it. The mp3 is available for direct download here.

I really appreciated Wright’s response and comments regarding his critics, in particular John Piper. Here is what Wright had to say about Piper and his new book:

Piper is in a different category. He graciously sent me an advance manuscript of his book which is critiquing me and invited my comments on it. I sent him a lengthy set of comments. I’ve only just got on email about two days ago the book in the revised form and I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. So I cannot say whether he’s being fair or not at this stage.

But I do know that he has done his darndest to be fair and I honor that and I respect that. People have asked me if I’m going to write a response, and the answer is that I don’t know. I’m kind of busy right now. But I maybe should, sooner or later.

I would love to see that response! Pray that Wright will find the time to respond and that this Piper/Wright dialogue will continue to bear fruit for God’s Kingdom.

The breakdown of the interview is also available in individual postings. Here is the breakdown:

Population decline and the end the non-Muslim world

Article: How to Take the Chill Out of Demographic Winter

Related to my previous post about Islam and a peaceful takeover, this article was passed along to me by my friend, Isaac Sumner. It details the global situation in which we are currently living in, along with the nature of Islam’s population expansion in various parts of Europe. Over the years I’ve read about many of these things, but I have not found an article, until now, that gives a comprehensive picture of what is taking place. I’m re-posting the article below in case the link above ever changes or gets taken away: Continue reading Population decline and the end the non-Muslim world
