There is a Day by Phatfish

My wife posted about this song today. Please watch the video (link below) and be encouraged as you look to the day that all things will be made new and death will be defeated and sin will be no more!

Maranatha! Maranatha!

The New Heaven and the New Earth

Rev. 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (ESV)

Lacrae – Rebel CD – Free Mp3

This is a great song from a really good rapper who is a Christian! I encourage you to listen to it and read the story behind the song here. You can also download it for free here:

What was your inspiration for your new album—”Rebel”?

The inspiration for the album was largely realizing my own need for a biblical worldview. As I would navigate through arts, economics, politics, media, and culture as a whole I’d wrestle with a dichotomy between sacred and secular all the time. I’d either embrace aspects of secularism or the other extreme be very separatist in my views. I began read and listen to stuff by D.A. Carson, Mark Driscoll, Tim Keller, and Francis Schaeffer, and taking another look at Genesis, Daniel, and Romans and I found a better grid to see the world through.

Over time I’ve worked to see Urban culture through a biblical lens and it’s really helped. So I wanted to share with the listener the need to take a stand for Christ in culture yet still be a blessing and cultivator for the culture.

Biblical Theology and Children

King, The Snake And The Promise

Here is a CD of songs for teaching your children the entire story of the Bible. Michael F. Bird highly recommends it for those who are weary of the same old songs that didn’t really paint the ENTIRE picture of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Here is what he had to say over at his blog:

“As a Father with two small children I am constantly challenged as to how best to impart a Christian worldview and a knowledge of Scripture into my kids. The odd Bible story here and there and a stack of memory verses can help, but getting kids aware of the Bible story-line as a whole is a lot harder. How do ya take these gorgeous little one’s from Crayons to Creation, Christ and the Consummation? Well, one good resource that I use is a Kids CD called: King, the Snake, and the Promise which tells the Bible story-line in song form from Genesis to Revelation. If you are weary of “Father Abraham had many sons”, then check out this resource. It comes with the Mike Bird four star seal of approval. It is available in Australia from Koorong (see the Link).”

Puff the Magic Jesus

John Reuben is a great rapper who has excellent Christian lyrics for all his songs. This song, But What About Them?, is probably the best song I have ever heard him perform. Below are the lyrics to the song. I will try to comment on them later, but for now I just wanted to let you take them in and think about things. Enjoy!

(CHORUS)
Puff the magic Jesus
Floats around the universe
The United States is His favorite place on the whole entire earth
So sing your songs and wave your flag
And thank the Lord for all you have
But what about them?
Did you forget about them?

We came we conquered never speak of this again
Life must go on let’s not think of them
Things are comfortable now the pioneers have settled in
A perfect blend of progress and pale skin
For our sake and those to come
We’ll rewrite the text so you can forget where you came from
Tell it in a way that will build your self esteem
Repackage the product and sell the American dream

(CHORUS)

History is best forgotten and even better rewritten
And since there’s no forgetting let’s remember it different
Commit to it so strongly till you believe it
The truth is there but you aren’t able to receive it
You need to know you’re safe here
Hide your face here cuz you found your faith here
But four walls with no windows doesn’t mean you’re it
Four walls with no windows doesn’t mean they don’t exist

(CHORUS)

What a prosperous, wondrous place
Remember to say grace before we scrape our plates
And ignore the crying outside the door sure
You’ll pray for their burdens but you don’t want to make it yours
Thin lines divide but there’s a world of difference
So crawl back into your happy existence and feel the bliss of ignorance keep you warm
Blessed are those who mourn but it’s so foreign
The more you have the less you care
The less you care the more you become unaware
And sure life’s not fair but it favors us apparently
And how are we to interpret this excess
Is it God’s favor, ill-behavior, or simply man’s modern progress
God bless us as we sweep this mess under the rug
Don’t want to walk barefoot on the tile and step in the mud
Out of sight out of mind and pushed to the side
Left for someone else to rationalize and justify

(CHORUS)

Wedding Dress

If you could love me as a wife

And for my wedding gift, your life

Should that be all I’ll ever need?

Or is there more I’m looking for

And should I read between the lines

And look for blessings in disguise

To make me handsome, rich, and wise

Is that really what you want?

(Chorus) ‘Cause I am a whore I do confess

But I put you on just like a wedding dress

And I run down the aisle, I run down the aisle

I’m a prodigal with no way home

But I put you on just like a ring of Gold

And I run down the aisle

I run down the aisle to you

So could you love this bastard child?

Though I don’t trust you to provide

With one hand in a pot of gold

And with the other in your side

‘Cause I am so easily satisfied

By the call of lovers so less wild

That I would take a little cash

Over your very flesh and blood

(Chorus)

Because money cannot buy

A husband’s jealous eye

When you have knowingly deceived his wife

(Chorus 2x)

Well, what do you think? Can you honestly make this confession to God? Can you admit that your sin against God is whoring around? Have you ever really considered what sin is? And just how horrid and detestable to God it is? Do you know the holiness of God? How He cannot look upon sin or let it go unpunished?

These are some things that everyone must consider if they are ever to have the chance to understand reality and the situation humanity is in.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans 3:23-26)

This is how we know that God is holy and just and a punisher of sin and at the same time full of grace and mercy unto His precious people whom He foreknew and sought to redeem for Himself – God’s unrighteousness in passing over sin (Proverbs 17:15) was made righteousness in Christ and His death on the cross.

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

The Gospel is so precious to my eyes. For once I was blind but now I see and once I was lost but now I have been found! I once was dead, but Christ said, “Live!” and I came to Him and received eternal life! I cannot turn back, I cannot be condemned, I cannot be ashamed – for Christ has saved me, He has justified me, He has done that which I could not do for myself! He made me, who was unwilling and unrepentant, to be willing and one who diligently seeks after Him – turning away from my sins and loving Him with all that I am.

If God is for me, then who can be against me? If Christ has satisfied the wrath of God for me, then how can wrath still be upon me? No one can and it cannot be, I respectively answer.

After writing Hebrews 11, the author says this in 12:1-3, “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.”

Therefore, let us draw near unto the Throne of Grace – with a true heart that has been sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies that have been washed with pure water! For all who are in Christ know and trust Him in all that He has promised. But for all who are outside of Christ, there is nothing but wrath and indignation in which to await.

On the day of judgment I hope your conscience is clean and that eternal joy in Christ is your sole comfort! Therefore, be patient in this life until He comes or until you pass from this earth, and seek always to be found in Him on that great and awful Day and great will be your reward!
