For those of you who do not know who Stephen Colbert is, you might be up for a shock. But I think he’s actually showing us what the rest of the world sees when they think about the religious right and politics. Here is the video. Let me know what you think in the comments section.

oh stephen colbert is a funny man. I don’t think having a strong stance on “liberal” issues such as poverty and global warming is bad. Perhaps that are more pressing issues but you can’t fault someone for wanting to help the poor…

I agree with your sentiments. I have felt, for some time, that the Christian Right’s focus on sex has ended up bringing about a negative view from the rest of the political spectrum. There is nothing wrong with holding conservative views on the issues of sexuality along with more liberal views on the issues of poverty and the ecosystem.
Unfortunately, in politics you are almost always doomed to have too big a focus on one thing and too little a focus on another – all of which your opponents will castigate and fault you for.
Maybe one day things will change, but I doubt it will be anytime soon!
