TN Governor: Tornadoes the ‘Wrath of God’

Sermon Audio reported that my state governor, Phil Bredesen, said (after surveying the damage done by the tornadoes earlier this week), “The wrath of God is the only way I can describe it.

These are wise words and the United States should heed them. Why do you think John McCain and Hillary Clinton are the leading candidates for both parties in the upcoming Presidential election? You think it’s bad luck these tornadoes happen to come through the day after Super Tuesday? Think again…

“There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

Luke 13:1-5 (ESV)

President Bush attacks the Gospel

Bush: All religions pray to ‘same God’

The link above is the article that was posted by Wordlnet Daily on Oct. 7, earlier this month. In the article President George W. Bush said, “Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That’s what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace.

Now, I don’t care how much spin someone tries to put on this statement above. I don’t care how much anyone points out that Bush has done many things to help Christians and to help the pro-life cause. I don’t care how much he says, “I’m a Christian.” It doesn’t matter. During this interview, President Bush attacked the Gospel of Jesus, the Messiah, when he said that all religious prayers reach the same God. They don’t!

It is only through the man, Jesus the Christ, that we can speak to “Almighty God.” In the context of telling Christians how to PRAY, the apostle Paul said, “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Tim. 2:5)

Please pray for President Bush. Pray that his eyes will be open and that his ‘politically correct’ heart will be changed and conformed to the Lord and Saviour that he professes to believe in. Pray that he will not be afraid or confused to tell the Islamic world that their prayers do not reach God and that they must submit their prayers to the mediator between God and men. Pray that our President will not further attack the Gospel and condemn himself as unworthy to receive the Kingdom because he refused to trust in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and the inheritance of a new heavens and a new earth.

I hope that God’s Spirit will change him. But ever since 9/11, Bush has never decided to put Jesus in the center of his Theological system and I don’t know if he ever will again.

In Christ and In Defense of the Faith,

Why Did the Bridge Collapse?

Most of you have seen the new reports and seen the raw video footage of the bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota, collapsing into the river and killing many people who were driving across it. Though the details of why the structure collapsed in a material sense are not known, we do know why the structure collapsed and why it is that so many people were killed and injured.

For those of you who do not know what I’m referring to, please listen to John Piper’s message overlaid on the video footage from their video team that went out last night after the bridge collapsed. His ministry and church are within only a couple of minutes of where the bridge collapsed and several of the people who work for Desiring God drove across that bridge ever day.

Pray for their ministry and that they will have great opportunities to share this message and the reality of God’s love for this sinful place in the coming days and months of recovery and reconstruction that will take place right in their home town.

Pray for a family who lost a child today

A family who is very close to us (especially my wife) lost their little baby boy today in a horrible accident. I will not go into details, but for everyone who reads this blog, please pray for them in this time of grief and loss. Pray that God will fill His people with His Spirit to minister to this family today and in the days to come. It will only be by God’s grace that this family will be healed. They have three older children and I cannot imagine what they are dealing with at this moment.

This is now a time to remember that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. God has called this family to suffer a horrible thing, but we must never forget that all those who have been united to Christ have been called to suffer much in this world… but because this family is united to Jesus their suffering will not be in vain and they will receive back seven fold of that which they lost this day.

Pray for their perseverance and preservation, that this tragedy will not cause them to fall away from the living God. Pray that their marriage will be maintained through God’s Spirit working out their salvation. Pray that they will be transformed from one degree of glory to another.

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” ( Romans 8 )

12 And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. 13 He had also seven sons and three daughters. 14 And he called the name of the first daughter Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch. 15 And in all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job’s daughters. And their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. 16 And after this Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, four generations. 17 And Job died, an old man, and full of days.” ( Job 42 )
