Well, in typical Western Socialist footsteps, the new “economic” stimulus bill being passed through the Senate and back to the House has added a “wonderful” step toward universal health care (i.e. – selective population control). Here is an article by Betsy McCaughey on Bloomberg.com<\/a> explaining what has been added to the stimulus bill over the weekend:<\/p>\n

Tragically, no one from either party is objecting to the health provisions slipped in without discussion.\u00a0These provisions\u00a0reflect the handiwork of Tom Daschle<\/a>,\u00a0until recently the nominee to\u00a0head\u00a0the Health and Human Services Department.<\/p>\n

Senators should read these provisions and vote against them because they are\u00a0dangerous to your health. (Page numbers refer to H.R. 1 EH<\/a>, pdf version).<\/p>\n

The bill’s health rules will affect “every individual in the United States”\u009d (445, 454, 479).\u00a0Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system. Having electronic medical records at your fingertips, easily transferred to a hospital,\u00a0is beneficial. It will help avoid duplicate tests and errors.<\/p>\n

But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology,\u00a0will\u00a0monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems\u00a0appropriate and\u00a0cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide”\u009d your doctor’s decisions (442, 446).\u00a0These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what\u00a0Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis<\/a>.”\u009d According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.”\u009d<\/p>\n

Keeping doctors informed of the newest medical findings is important, but enforcing uniformity goes too far.<\/p>\n

Elderly Hardest Hit <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Daschle says health-care reform\u00a0“will not be pain free.”\u009d Seniors should be more accepting\u00a0of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them.\u00a0That means the elderly will bear the brunt.<\/p>\n

Medicare<\/a> now pays for treatments deemed\u00a0safe and effective. The stimulus bill would change that and apply a cost- effectiveness standard set by the Federal Council (464).<\/p>\n

The Federal Council is modeled after a U.K. board discussed in Daschle’s book. This board\u00a0approves or rejects treatments using a formula that divides the cost of the treatment by the number of years the patient is likely to benefit. Treatments for younger patients are more often approved than treatments for diseases that affect the elderly, such as osteoporosis.<\/p>\n

In 2006, a U.K. health board decreed that elderly patients with macular degeneration had to wait until they went blind in one eye before they could get a costly new drug to save the other eye. It took almost three years of public protests before the board reversed its decision.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
